San Francisco – Pillsbury partner Terrence A. Callan has been named "Antitrust Lawyer of the Year" by the Antitrust & Unfair Competition Section of the State Bar of California. A San Francisco Litigation partner with an illustrious career handling antitrust and competition matters, Callan will be honored at the Section's Antitrust Lawyer of the Year Dinner on Thursday, October 25, in San Francisco, following the Section's annual Golden State Institute, a series of cutting edge antitrust and unfair competition seminars.

Established to recognize outstanding career commitment, success and contributions in antitrust and competition law, the Antitrust Lawyer of the Year award is presented by the Antitrust & Unfair Competition Section's Executive Committee, comprised of plaintiffs, defense and in-house counsel, along with public service attorneys and lawyers from the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission and other state and federal agencies. Recipients of the prestigious honor include many of the state's top attorneys, with national reputations on antitrust and competition law matters.

"On behalf of all of Terry's colleagues at our firm, we congratulate Terry on this tremendous recognition," said Roxane Polidora, firmwide leader of Pillsbury's Antitrust & Competition practice team. "Terry's selection by some of the preeminent practitioners in this field is a demonstration of the enormous respect the antitrust bar as a whole has for his knowledge and service."

"I want to thank the members of the Antitrust and Unfair Competition Section's Executive Committee for this award. It is an honor to join past recipients, who are some of the very best in our profession," Callan said. "Among many I must thank are my past and present colleagues at Pillsbury who have provided invaluable support."

Callan, a nationally recognized antitrust lawyer, joined Pillsbury in 1964. A former head of the firm's Antitrust & Competition practice team, his regulatory and litigation experience spans antitrust, unfair competition and tort litigation, as well as multiparty and multidistrict class action litigation. Callan also represents corporate and individual clients in grand jury, Justice Department, Federal Trade Commission, Attorney General and internal investigations, and provides antitrust counseling in the areas of distribution, dealer relations, pricing and marketing practices, and joint ventures and mergers. He received his BA from the University of San Francisco, and his JD from the University of California's Hastings College of Law.

This is the third time a Pillsbury lawyer has received Antitrust Lawyer of the Year honors. Mary Cranston, Retired Senior Partner and Immediate Past Chair of Pillsbury received the award in 2008 and Pillsbury's late distinguished partner, Francis Kirkham, the first recipient selected in 1991.

Pillsbury represents clients in some of the most significant antitrust, unfair competition and trade regulation litigation. The firm's Antitrust & Competition Litigation team is distinguished by its experience with the complexities of antitrust litigation—and by its track record in securing favorable resolutions through successful litigation, negotiated settlements and jury trials. The team's strengths include the efficient management of multi-district class action litigation and parallel criminal antitrust investigations. Pillsbury attorneys also have significant experience handling antitrust proceedings involving the Department of Justice, Federal Trade Commission and U.S. Attorneys' Offices. Pillsbury lawyers regularly appear in federal district courts, federal circuit courts of appeal and state courts across the country and advocate before federal and state regulatory agencies, states attorneys general, and foreign governments.
