Anne M. Voigts

Anne is a member of the Advisory Board to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the Law360 Appellate Editorial Board, and of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. She has also previously served as a member of the California Lawyer’s Association’s Committee on Appellate Courts, a member of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Amicus Briefs, a former chair of the Appellate Lawyer Representatives for the Ninth Circuit, and a former lead editor and contributor to the Representatives’ Practice Guide, found on the Ninth Circuit’s website.

A California-certified appellate specialist, she has taught appellate advocacy at USC Gould School of Law and the Department of Justice’s National Advocacy Center, among others. She regularly speaks on developments in Supreme Court and Ninth Circuit case law, privacy law, including the California Consumer Privacy Act, and effective legal writing, and has participated on panels at Stanford’s Rock Center Directors’ College, the Ingram Inn of Court and the California Lawyers Association, among others.

Anne has an active amicus brief practice and recently received the Human Trafficking Legal Center’s Advocate of the Year award. She is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and appointed to a three-year term on the Northern District of California’s Criminal Justice Act Appellate Panel Selection Committee, as well as its habeas committee. She is also a former president of the Federal Bar Association-Northern District of California Chapter.

• Successfully obtained review of Rule 23(f) petition and subsequent vacatur of class certification order for failure to consider issue of first impression regarding class certification and personal jurisdiction.*
• Successfully defended on appeal dismissal of majority of alleged misrepresentations in putative securities fraud suit with remaining allegations dismissed on remand.*
• Successfully defended on appeal dismissal of putative class action against a major airline arising out of hacking incident on preemption and sufficiency of the pleading grounds.*
• Obtained complete dismissal of claims against online retailer based on ransomware incident.*
• Obtained dismissal of privacy-based claims based on use of Pixel technology against company.*
• Obtained dismissal of privacy-based claims in suits based on use of third-party fraud-prevention vendors.*
• Successfully defended on appeal the conviction of a pharmaceutical company's CEO for statements made in a press release about the results of a clinical study.*
• Won reversal of the district court's order granting a new trial to a lawyer convicted of money laundering.*
• Successfully defended on appeal defendant’s convictions and sentence on wire fraud charges arising out of a multimillion-dollar international investment fraud scheme.*
• Successfully defended on appeal the racketeering convictions and sentences of three leaders of the Aryan Brotherhood prison gang.*
