A registered patent agent with 13 years of experience, Ben prepares and prosecutes U.S. patent applications and develops coordinated prosecution strategies for patent portfolios in Europe, Japan, China, Canada, and Australia.
Ben has particularly deep experience in fusion energy, plasma physics, and advanced nuclear-energy technologies. His patent work has encompassed stellarator designs, fusion-system hardware, plasma diagnostics and control software, and molten-salt reactor technology. This combination of patent experience and technical fluency enables him to work directly with scientists and engineers on inventions ranging from fundamental confinement concepts to the hardware and software required to build and operate fusion-energy systems.

Ben came to patent practice from experimental plasma physics. His doctoral research on the Madison Symmetric Torus, a reversed-field-pinch magnetic-confinement experiment, included work relating to neutral beam injection. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the DIII-D tokamak, where his work included a lithium-beam diagnostic for measuring plasma-edge density. Through this research, Ben gained hands-on experience with plasma diagnostics, vacuum and high-voltage systems, spectroscopy, lasers and optical systems, analog electronics, data acquisition, and the integration of complex experimental hardware. This background allows him to understand fusion inventions at both the underlying-physics and practical-implementation levels.
Ben’s broader practice includes semiconductor lithography and fabrication systems, high-power electromagnetic systems, radiation therapy and nuclear-medicine technologies, cardiac and blood-collection devices, reproductive-health technologies, and other sophisticated mechanical, electrical, and software-based inventions. He has also prepared and prosecuted numerous patent applications involving artificial intelligence and machine learning, including technologies applying machine-learning models to image analysis, prediction, classification, process control, and other technical problems.
Across these fields, Ben works closely with inventors to identify the protectable technical core of an innovation and translate complex systems into clear, strategically useful patent claims.
