Cunmei Zhang focuses her practice on the formation, structuring and operation of domestic and international private investment funds, with a particular emphasis on venture capital funds. She represents fund sponsors ranging from emerging managers to established global investment firms, advising them throughout the fund lifecycle on governance, economic terms, investor negotiations, side letters and ongoing fund operations.
Cunmei also advises multinational corporations on establishing and operating corporate venture capital funds and represents institutional investors in connection with their investments in private funds. Drawing on her experience in both the United States and China, she brings a cross-border perspective to matters involving international sponsors, investors and investment activities.

Before joining Pillsbury, Cunmei practiced in the investment funds groups of leading global law firms in San Francisco. Earlier in her career, she practiced in the Shanghai offices of two leading international law firms, where she formed private equity and venture capital funds for Asian sponsors and represented Chinese and Singaporean sovereign wealth funds in their investments in private funds worldwide.
