Lauren Smith focuses her practice on litigation, with a specific emphasis on insurance recovery matters and construction disputes, as well as white collar defense and government investigations.

Lauren has experience representing clients at all stages of disputes, from initial claims and negotiations, through discovery, trial and appeal. A significant portion of Lauren’s practice is focused on analyzing, litigating and resolving insurance coverage and commercial construction disputes on behalf of policyholders under builder’s risk, commercial general liability, subcontractor default, professional, pollution, commercial property, business interruption and other insurance policies. Lauren has also worked with Pillsbury’s Corporate Investigations & White Collar Defense group on various civil and criminal matters.

Representative Experience

  • Successfully represented a general contractor in a federal jury trial involving coverage under a contractor pollution liability policy.
  • Represents general contractors and project developers in the resolution of multimillion-dollar insurance coverage disputes outside of litigation.
  • Analyzes insurance policies and advises clients in the construction industry regarding the scope of available coverage during the insurance procurement process.

  • Assists major homebuilders in insurance recovery efforts as additional insureds under their subcontractors’ policies for numerous water intrusion and other property damage claims in Florida and New Jersey.
  • Represented a government contractor in responding to a civil investigative demand issued by the U.S. Department of Justice.
