Anthony Cavender, a Houston-based senior counsel in Pillsbury's Environmental & Natural Resources practice, was recently honored by the Federal Bar Association (FBA) with a remarkable tribute at the organization’s annual Dinner Honoring the Federal Judiciary.
In recognition of his more than four decades of dedicated service to the FBA and the legal profession, Cavender received the inaugural “Anothony Cavender Award”—a distinction newly established in his honor. The award celebrates his enduring commitment to leadership, mentorship and professional excellence within the Houston chapter and beyond.
A devoted member of the FBA for over 40 years, Cavender served as Houston chapter president in 1987 and has since played a pivotal role in fostering a culture of mentorship and collegiality that continues to define the chapter today.
Beginning this year, the Anthony Cavender Award will be presented annually to a member who exemplifies the same spirit of service, leadership and dedication that Cavender has demonstrated throughout his distinguished career.
Cavender provides guidance and counseling relating to enforcement and compliance. He has represented clients in Superfund matters and in RCRA and Clean Water Act enforcement proceedings. Prior to joining Pillsbury, Cavender was a member of the legal department of Pennzoil Co., specializing in these areas as well as general corporate legal matters. In addition, he served on various energy industry committees and trade associations. Before joining Pennzoil, he was an attorney working at the Federal Communications Commission with the Cable Television Bureau, after serving in the Army's Judge Advocate Generals Corps at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and other facilities.
