Viptela Inc., a privately held company specializing in software-defined wide area networks (SD-WAN), has been acquired by Cisco Systems Inc. for $610 million in cash and assumed equity awards, according to The Deal. Pillsbury has represented San Jose-based Viptela since its inception in 2012.

The acquisition will expand Cisco’s SD-WAN portfolio. After the transaction closes in the second-half of the year, Viptela’s and Cisco’s engineering teams will work closely together to enhance Cisco's SD-WAN offering and ensure continued customer support, Cisco said in a statement.

Stan Pierson, the leader of Pillsbury’s Emerging Growth & Venture Capital group, led a team that included partners Cindy Schlaefer, Brian Wainwright, David Jakopin, George Willman and Michael Sibarium, along with associates Judy Yan, Erin Jennings and Matthew Ryan.
