The Board of Directors of the Disability Rights Legal Center (DRLC) honored Pillsbury with a special proclamation for its pro bono efforts at the organization’s 44th Annual Franklin D. Roosevelt Dinner and Silent Auction on Nov. 2 at Fox Studios in Los Angeles.

The proclamation recognized Pillsbury for its recent success in a class action lawsuit against Pomona Unified School District on behalf of special needs students who were victims of abuse and neglect. The lawsuit led to the recovery of monetary damages and the implementation of new policies and practices to help ensure that students with disabilities have access to a safe learning environment. In addition, DRLC noted that Pillsbury donated the full $1.47 million in attorneys’ fees that were awarded in the case to the organization.

The DRLC specifically identified retired Pillsbury partner Christine Scheuneman, partner Michael McDonough, senior associate Elaine Lee and associates Benjamin Strauss, Stephanie Amaru and Rebecca Lee for their commitment to justice.
