Energy partner Robert A. James, Environmental counsel Stella Pulman and Environmental associate Alex Peyton co-authored this book chapter, in which they provide an overview of the current United States energy marketplace, amid the unique November 2020 election results while awaiting the January 2021 Senate runoffs.

Rob, Stella and Alex discuss the progress as well as the clashes on policies and projects in a wide variety of arenas:

  • The emergence of hydrogen as a favored energy storage medium and fuel source;
  • Incentives and challenges for renewables, including US offshore wind and expanded power storage;
  • Divergent views on natural gas and battles over new oil and gas pipelines;
  • Endangered Species Act, environmental regulatory and climate change litigation developments; and
  • Environmental justice issues and contests with respect to energy project siting and entitlement.
