Washington, DC-based Energy partner Anne Leidich has been named a 2023 Rising Star in the energy category by Law360.

Consideration for this award is based on career accomplishments, which must “belie their age,” as nominees must be under the age of 40. Leidich was chosen among more than 1,350 nominations and is considered a go-to lawyer for the nuclear energy industry.

A member of Pillsbury Energy practice, Leidich has also been recognized by Chambers USA for Energy: Nuclear Nationwide consideration in 2022. Anne represents domestic generators of nuclear power, advanced reactor startups, materials licensees and vendors of nuclear power plant components in transactional, litigation, export control and regulatory matters.

In her profile, Leidich discusses several of her recent victories including the regulatory work she handled for client Brookfield Renewable Partners in its joint $8 billion purchase of Westinghouse with partner Cameco Corp. Additionally, she took part in assisting Holtec International secure a license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for a proposed interim nuclear waste storage facility in New Mexico.

“Consolidated interim storage is such a new area; there have been licenses issued for facilities, but no one's ever really built and operated one,” Leidich said. “It's a win for the industry in a sense that it's a potential solution going forward for some of the needs that the industry has.”

Excited about the recent advances in nuclear reactor design for decarbonization efforts, Leidich said, “I really would love to see that happen, I think that it's long overdue. Making sure that those facilities are licensed, that they get to operate and get their opportunity to shine, is something that really motivates me.”
