Wins against the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Department of Energy, among others, earned Pillsbury’s Government Contracts & Disputes practice recognition as one of Law360’s Government Contracts Group of the Year. In selecting the winning groups, Law360 considered 619 submissions across 34 practice areas. The award acknowledges the practice groups that have achieved the biggest wins between October 2015 and October 2016 with a focus on consequential matters and overall excellence.

Among many other successful outcomes for the practice in 2016, Law360 noted firm client Entergy’s $225 million collection from the U.S. Department of Energy in a series of lawsuits over the department’s failure to cover the costs of nuclear fuel storage. The team that represented Entergy was led by partners Alex Tomaszczuk and Jay Silberg. Additionally, practice co-leader John Jensen, along with counsel David Dixon, led a team that advised a private equity firm in Truven Health Analytics Inc.’s $2.6 billion acquisition by IBM Corp. Another win included a federal judge’s ruling that client Aeros Aeronautical Systems Corp. had established government liability in its suit against the Navy for alleged negligence that led to the loss of a $65 million blimp prototype and $3 billion in capital financing.

“Pillsbury’s Government Contracts & Disputes practice had a great year in 2016,” Jensen said. “It’s an honor to be chosen as one of Law360’s groups of the year, and I think it shows how hard we work to consistently deliver the best results for our clients.”

Law360 also highlighted the practice’s growth on the West Coast and its expanded reach to California’s technology companies, which are somewhat new to the government contracts landscape.

“The government is turning to [California] for solutions on solving problems such as cybersecurity and cyber hacks,” practice co-leader Michael Rizzo told Law360, “and our sense was that there would be increased buying from the technology sectors. Being in California and having access to clients in the Silicon Valley was very important to us.”

Pillsbury's Government Contracts & Disputes team provides local, national and international clients with advice and representation over a full spectrum of government contract matters at the federal and state levels. Pillsbury’s clients entrust the Government Contracts & Disputes team with high-stakes protests and litigation, and the group continually guides its clients through the maze of government regulations and contracts. The group’s excellence has also been commended by Chambers USA.
