Miami Litigation partner Shani Rivaux has been named to the Daily Business Review’s 2017 “On the Rise” list in connection with the publication’s annual Professional Excellence Awards program. The On the Rise category recognizes lawyers under the age of 40 for wielding influence and showing expertise in their practice areas and for committing themselves to pro bono, charitable and professional volunteer work.

In a profile of her career and achievements, Rivaux tells DBR that her interest in advocating a being a voice for others is what drew her to a career in law, and that her proudest career moment has been her appointment as a guardian ad litem for a child in the foster care system. Rivaux also discussed work-life balance, goals for her practice, mentorship and qualities that lead to success in the legal profession with DBR, and she says the biggest challenge she sees for the legal field in the future is the intersection between artificial intelligence and the protection of legal ethics.

Rivaux’s diverse practice at Pillsbury extends to a wide range of sectors. She handles high stakes mass tort litigation and complex commercial disputes and represents clients in arbitration and in federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate levels. Since 2008, she has been an active trial team member in more than 10 trials and arbitration proceedings throughout the state of Florida. In her appellate practice, she has co-authored numerous briefs addressing complex legal issues, including questions of choice-of-law, theories of damages, and the application of Medicaid.
