Continuing the firm’s efforts to build a market-leading bank and leveraged finance practice capable of meeting the significant demands of its global Financial Services clients, Pillsbury has recruited an additional three lawyers to its New York Finance practice. Partner Joseph Fastiggi and special counsel Heidi Spalholz come to the firm from Schulte Roth & Zabel, while senior associate Cecilia Wang joins from Paul Hastings.

The move reunites Fastiggi, Spalholz and Wang with their former colleagues Michael Michetti and Joel Simon, who joined Pillsbury in July. All collaborated closely at Paul Hastings, where Michetti was a co-founder and Simon a key member of what became one of the top acquisition finance practices in the United States.

“With Joe, Heidi and Cece on board and working in close collaboration with renowned finance lawyers like Mike and Joel, we are in an even stronger position to become market leaders within the city’s financial community,” said Finance Practice Section Leader Mark Lessard. “This significant injection of New York talent affords us the additional skills and bandwidth necessary to more fully address an increasingly critical need for our clients.”

Fastiggi represents investment banking firms, commercial banks and corporations in public and private financing transactions, with a focus on leveraged financings for acquisitions and recapitalizations. He has worked on the bank and bond sides of financings and has represented lender- and borrower-side clients in both syndicated loan and direct lending financings and underwriter- and issuer-side clients in high-yield debt issuances and equity offerings. His experience spans the retail, industrial and manufacturing, software, pharmaceuticals, automotive, telecommunications, fintech, energy and financial services industries.

Spalholz represents investment banking firms, commercial banks, hedge funds, private equity funds and corporations in a variety of complex financings and credit agreements. Wang’s practice focuses on financings and other investment transactions, with an emphasis on leveraged financings including acquisition financings, syndicated loan financings and high-yield notes offerings.

“Having worked side by side with these lawyers for a number of years, I am well acquainted with the excellent legal counsel and service they deliver for clients,” Michetti said. “I’m grateful to have them back on my team and look forward to leveraging their many talents to solidify and strengthen Pillsbury’s already significant reputation in the finance and capital markets space.”

Pillsbury’s global finance team counsels more than 200 financial institutions—including many of the world’s largest banks—on all types of secured and unsecured financings, from initial issuance through repayment. The team combines in-depth industry and regulatory knowledge with keen technical skill to helps financial services providers and users manage risk, navigate business, legal and regulatory challenges, leverage opportunities, and get deals done.
