SAN DIEGO—Pillsbury today announced that Intellectual Property partner Callie Bjurstrom will join partner Jack Barufka in leading the firm’s IP practice section. Bjurstrom’s practice focuses on the litigation of IP rights, including patent, trademark, trade secret and copyright claims, in addition to unfair competition, unfair business practices and other general business litigation matters. She has successfully tried cases to verdict as lead counsel in both state and federal court and has experience across key industries such as telecommunications, casino and electronic gaming, wireless communications, building products, medical devices and consumer products.

“As an experienced trial attorney, Callie will bring valuable perspectives to the IP section’s management,” Barufka said. “We have grown our IP litigation practice considerably in recent years, and Callie’s leadership will help us continue to aggressively pursue new business opportunities.”

Since 2012, Pillsbury has grown its IP practice by a dozen new partners, including the addition of preeminent IP litigators in the firm’s San Diego and Austin offices. The firm continues to focus on its growth efforts in IP worldwide.

“The expansion of Callie’s role comes at an important time for Pillsbury’s IP practice,” said partner Jim Rishwain. “Intellectual property is a rapidly changing, dynamic area of business and law, and we are focused on continuing to strengthen our services in this space. We are working hard to increase client awareness of the firm’s extensive experience in this area and are pursuing new opportunities in exciting areas such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and wearable technology."

Bjurstrom, who has been consistently recognized as a top litigator in her field, joined Pillsbury in 2012 and is based in the firm’s San Diego office.
