In its biennial ranking of Washington, DC’s technology industry influencers, Washingtonian has named partner Steve Kaplan to its prestigious list of “Tech Titans,” individuals who are “shaping the future of not just technology, but potentially the city itself.”

Kaplan, who is based in Pillsbury’s Tyson’s Corner office just outside DC, counsels clients throughout the business life cycle, from entity formation and early-stage capital raises through a variety of multifaceted transactions, including sales, mergers and spinoffs, among others. The emerging growth companies Kaplan represents include other titans on Washingtonian’s list, such as event-planning platform Social Tables and flower-delivery startup UrbanStems. Among other matters, he advises these startups on issues involving capital, governance and licensing.

In 2016, Kaplan was honored with an Emerging Leader award from M&A Advisor, and he is a regular speaker and author on legal issues and fundraising for startups at universities and event in the DC area. He also is a founding member and serves legal counsel for NextGen Venture Partners, an angel investor group, and he chairs the Northern Virginia Technology Council’s Entrepreneur Education committee.
