The Texas Bar College has awarded Houston-based Litigation senior associate William McMichael the 2025 Franklin Jones Best CLE Article Award for his article, “So You’ve Got a Verdict…What Now?! Post-Verdict Procedure and Practice Tips for Texas Insurance Lawyers.”

Named in honor of Franklin Jones, Jr., a co-founder of the Texas Bar College, the award recognizes the year’s most outstanding continuing legal education article across all practice areas, celebrating excellence in legal scholarship and professional development.

McMichael’s article offers a practical roadmap for Texas insurance lawyers navigating the complex post-verdict landscape. Specifically, it addresses critical issues such as:

  • Counsel obligations and strategic considerations after an adverse verdict;
  • Supersedeas bond requirements and procedures;
  • Insurer duties when a verdict exceeds policy limits;
  • Potential damages arising during the appeal process and exposure to bad faith claims;
  • The impact of judgment reversals or modifications.
