Pillsbury lawyers deliver strategic and pragmatic counsel, spearheading client advocacy efforts before state and local governments and regulatory agencies.
Pillsbury’s Government Law & Strategies team provides state and local government strategies for clients in several industry sectors, including financial services, health care and nonprofit organizations. We craft and execute strategies for clients to ward off potentially harmful regulations, enact favorable policies, win contracts, or avoid enforcement actions across the country. In implementing these strategies, we often leverage our legal subject matter experts at Pillsbury’s offices across the country, as well as a national network of state and local lobbyists in a variety of jurisdictions to assist us in advocating for client interests, mobilize grassroots supporters and build industry coalitions to achieve optimal outcomes for our clients. We often engage with key national, state and local stakeholder groups (e.g., think tanks and advocacy organizations) prior to and during state legislative sessions to ensure that the influential model legislation these organizations share with legislators reflects the interests of our clients. This proactive engagement often results in fewer problematic issues to resolve (and, in many cases, positive opportunities to pursue) when relevant bills are being debated by legislatures.
We also work closely with Pillsbury’s Political Law team, which is routinely called upon to provide advice to clients on lobbying disclosure and gift-related compliance in many states. Our State and Local Government Strategies practice is especially beneficial to clients that are facing the same issues in multiple states, such as unnecessary licensing requirements or the like.
