Pauleen Truong focuses her practice on a diverse range of complex commercial litigation, including insurance recovery, consumer class actions, construction law, employment litigation and pharmaceutical matters.

Pauleen has experience first-chairing arbitrations, in all aspects of discovery, including taking depositions, negotiating pre-litigation and pre-trial settlements, preparing cases for trial, preparing and arguing motions and appellate practice, including petitions to the U.S. Supreme Court. She also maintains an active pro bono practice, including on behalf of victims of domestic violence and asylum seekers.

Prior to joining Pillsbury, Pauleen represented clients in a broad range of complex civil matters, including terrorism judgment collection, contract, mass tort litigation, trademark, professional negligence, right of publicity, defamation and tortious interference claims at the trial and appellate level.

Representative Experience

  • Successfully obtained a multimillion-dollar compensatory damages award, plus attorney’s fees and costs, on behalf of a homeowner for breach of contract in a construction defect arbitration.
  • Obtained early dismissal of a putative nationwide class action on behalf of an entertainment company, followed by a favorable resolution of appellate proceedings.
  • Secured administrative closure of deportation case against an asylum applicant with a misdemeanor arrest record.

  • Represented the policyholder in a major construction defect case with damages in excess of $150 million. The insurance recovery aspects are unique in that there are only a few published cases confirming insurance coverage for resulting damage covered as an exception to the “cost of making good” exclusion in a property policy.
  • Represented victims of state-sponsored terrorism in seeking turnover of blocked assets of Iran and its agencies and instrumentalities under the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act and Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, including prosecuting and favorably settling claims against a blocked insurance policy and seeking turnover of real property valued around $1 billion.
  • Negotiated a favorable pre-litigation settlement of California unfair competition claims on behalf of a private equity firm against the founder and former CEO of one of their portfolio companies.
  • Successfully obtained remand of wildfire victims’ lawsuit against a government contractor, despite the Federal Officer Removal Statute, and achieved dismissal of appeal to the Ninth Circuit.
