Ranjini Acharya brings a multidisciplinary approach to navigating the protection and enforcement of patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright and other intellectual property rights.
Ranjini excels at resolving complex intellectual property disputes in federal district courts and at the International Trade Commission. She works with clients across a diverse range of industries, spanning artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, medical devices, home automation software, cybersecurity, LED panels, video game consoles, social networking, hospitality management and retail products, among others. Ranjini has significant courtroom experience, including at both the trial and appellate level, and is skilled in effectively presenting to judges and juries alike.

Alongside her litigation practice, Ranjini is also well-versed in helping clients strategically develop and commercialize their trademark and copyright portfolios. In her role as a trusted counselor, Ranjini helps clients develop effective brand strategies, employee disclosure agreements and inventions disclosure protocols, and licensing programs to protect and commercialize their valuable intellectual property.
Ranjini maintains a robust pro bono practice and actively mentors diverse law students at Stanford and UC Berkeley law schools.
Representative Experience
- Representing ROSS Intelligence Inc. in one of the first AI copyright infringement and fair uses cases. Appeal proceedings are ongoing. Thompson Reuters Centre GmbH, et al v. Ross Intelligence Inc. (3d Cir.).
- Defended Fox in relation to claims of patent infringement relating to network scheduling software. Achieved complete victory at the pleadings stage after the court granted Fox’s motion to dismiss with prejudice and found all four asserted patents invalid for failing to claim patentable subject matter. Affirmed upon appeal in a precedent-setting, landmark win. Recentive Analytics, Inc. v. Fox Corp. et al. (D. Del. 2022).
- Defending Fluidmaster in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Danco Inc. Danco, Inc. v. Fluidmaster, Inc. (C.D. Cal. 2023; ongoing).

- Regularly represent ADT in district courts around the country, as well as at the International Trade Commission. Past work has included defending ADT against claims of patent infringement, as well as enforcing ADT’s foundational home security patents against third parties.
- Served as lead trial counsel on behalf of Bass Pro Shops in relation to allegations of trademark infringement. Secured an early settlement shortly after pleadings closed, and plaintiff dismissed the suit thereafter. Elite Detailed Cleaning Inc. v. Bass Pro, LLC (N.D. Cal. 2022).
- Defended MicroVention in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Stryker Corp. in Delaware involving vascular stent technologies. Spearheaded the filing of an ex parte reexamination request, resulting in a stay of the district court proceedings and cancellation of all challenged claims at the Patent Office. Stryker Corp. v. MicroVention, Inc. (D. Del. 2021).
- Defended Disney in a patent infringement lawsuit involving the popular Disney Infinity console. The case settled favorably on the eve of trial. VRtoysone LLC v. Disney Interactive Studios, Inc. (C.D. Cal. 2019).
- Represented Intel Corp. in relation to claims of patent infringement brought by FG SRC against Intel’s field programmable gate array (FPGA) semiconductor devices, including locating and developing the testimony of a prior art inventor in connection with Intel’s petition for inter partes review at the Patent Office. FG SRC, LLC v. Intel Corp. (W.D. Tex. 2020).
- Defended ViewRay in a patent infringement lawsuit brought by Varian Medical Systems involving radiotherapy technology. The case was stayed and eventually resolved after the court found six claims indefinite during claim construction. Varian Medical Systems v. ViewRay, Inc. (N.D. Cal. 2019).
- Served as lead attorney for Sonoma Pharmaceuticals in one of the first cases brought under the Defend Trade Secrets Act (2016). Case settled following grant of expedited discovery and after defeating defendants’ attempted Rule 11 motion. Sonoma Pharmaceuticals Inc. v. Collidion Inc. et al. (N.D. Cal., 2018).
