Pillsbury litigators Jennifer Altman and Shani Rivaux have been selected to the National Law Journal’s 2019 list of Winning Litigators. Recognizing those lawyers whom NLJ describes as “masters of the courtroom,” the special report acknowledges trial lawyers who scored big victories for their clients in the year’s highest-stakes cases. Just 32 individuals were selected in 2019.

Altman and Rivaux’s inclusion in the highly-selective list follows their impressive victory in Bailey v. Laser Spine Institute, in which they achieved two reversals of a lower court decision and dramatically increased the original judgment for their client from $1.6 million to nearly $400 million. In addition, the case established new Florida law, creating a meaningful framework for applying disgorgement to commercial disputes.

Altman has led clients through complex commercial cases of all types, handling approximately 20 trials in state and federal courts and in arbitration forums across the United States and internationally. She serves as office managing partner for Pillsbury’s Miami office and co-leads the firm’s Product Liability practice.

Rivaux handles high stakes mass tort litigation and complex commercial disputes, representing clients in arbitration and federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate levels. She also has comprehensive experience in defending product liability lawsuits, having handled more than 50 such cases in pre-trial, trial and post-trial phases.
