The Financial Times has recognized Pillsbury as one of North America’s most innovative law firms as part of its 2021 Innovative Lawyers Awards program. The firm has been shortlisted for the “Innovation in Sustainability & ESG” award for its recent hydrogen developments, including launching the AmLaw 100’s first Hydrogen practice. Winners will be announced on Dec. 9 in a virtual awards ceremony.

In response to hydrogen’s role in the ongoing energy transformation, Pillsbury launched the AmLaw 100’s first Hydrogen practice in Sep. 2020. Situated within the firm’s powerhouse Energy Industry Group, this multidisciplinary team comprises lawyers with the expertise to help influence the development and standardization of hydrogen objectives and provides a comprehensive collection of hydrogen resources.

Led by Energy Industry Group leader Sheila Harvey, along with Hydrogen and Nuclear Energy partner Elina Teplinsky, Pillsbury’s Hydrogen team comprises more than 50 lawyers with experience advising leading energy companies, utilities, technology producers and transportation companies on a myriad of hydrogen power and infrastructure projects. These services include support in relation to financing, construction, M&A, value chain assessments, policy and regulatory advice. The practice advises on hydrogen usage, infrastructure and financing while also addressing the particular difficulties certain sectors face—including electricity generation, low-carbon fuel production, heavy industry, steel and iron manufacturing and transportation.

The firm’s hydrogen team has become a leading voice as the energy industry and U.S. government develop their own hydrogen agenda. Among other valuable resources, the practice launched the Hydrogen Map (www.thehydrogenmap.com), the first known publicly available tool that tracks every stage in the development of hundreds of hydrogen projects worldwide.
