NEW YORK— A team of Pillsbury lawyers led by Corporate and M&A partner Jarrod Murphy advised the founders of Digital Edge on the establishment of a diversified Asia Pacific data center investment platform, which recently announced the closing of two initial investments in data centers in Japan, one of the platform’s key markets.

The Digital Edge platform brings together a group of seasoned former executives from Equinix, Facebook, Tata Communications and Macquarie, with leading North American infrastructure-focused private equity firm, Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners. Stonepeak, its investors and the Digital Edge management team have together made a $1 billion equity capital commitment to the platform. Digital Edge is led by CEO Samuel Lee, who previously served as President of Equinix’s Asia Pacific business from 2005 to 2019.

Headquartered in Singapore, Digital Edge is focused on acquiring and developing data centers and related digital infrastructure assets across the Asia Pacific region. Its two initial investments in Japan consist of a partnership with Keihanshin Building Co. and Kanden Energy Solution Co., Inc. (Kenes - Kansai Electric Power group company) for the development of a 12MW facility in central Osaka, and a strategic partnership with ITOCHU Techno-Solutions Corporation, beginning with their Mejirozaka Data Center in Tokyo. With these two transactions, Digital Edge will have an offering across the two largest data center markets in Japan serving both domestic and international demand.

In addition to Jarrod Murphy, the core Pillsbury team advising Digital Edge included Alyssa Fiedler, Ivan Mitev, Rebecca Rizzo and Anthony Krueger.
