In the culmination of a high-profile, two-year breach-of-contract dispute, the Trump Organization has reached a settlement with CZ-National LLC, a joint venture between celebrity chef Geoffrey Zakarian and real estate developer Louis Ceruzzi. Zakarian owns several noted eateries and is a star on the Food Network, and Ceruzzi is an investor in several upscale New York restaurants.

The Trump Organization sued CZ-National after Zakarian announced that he could not continue with plans to open a restaurant in Trump’s new Washington, DC luxury hotel complex following negative comments President Trump made about Mexican immigrants early in his campaign. CZ-National filed a counterclaim, arguing that President Trump’s comments violated an implied agreement to act in good faith and would make it impossible to run a successful restaurant. Terms of the settlement are confidential.

CZ-National is represented by Litigation partner Deborah Baum and senior counsel Alvin Dunn, along with associates Adya Baker and Michael Warley. In a statement to The Washington Post, Baum said the team is “pleased both sides were able to settle their difference amicably and put this dispute behind them.”
