It is nearly two months since Russia invaded Ukraine. In this webinar, we reflect on the key questions we have been advising clients on, and provide practical perspectives on how international companies are navigating a supremely difficult legal and commercial landscape.

Topics covered include:

  • Financial sanctions: the distinction between asset freezes, and less restrictive sanctions measures, the availability of licenses, and how concepts of ownership and control extend the scope of sanctions.
  • Export controls: extension of controls to the concepts of technical assistance and services, what guidance is available and how is provision of services dealt with by the relevant legislation?
  • Compliance and enforcement: Are we expecting a crackdown on non-compliance and a focus on anti-circumvention measures? What is expected of international companies by national authorities? Does the position of governments matter as much as the position of civil society?
  • Approaches to Russian business: the practical challenges of divestment or suspension of operations, and risk mitigation measures.

This webinar will take the form of a discussion, led by Tom Cummins and involving Olivier Dorgans, Ross Denton and Nancy Fischer.

The webinar will be as interactive as possible, and we invite questions in advance and throughout the session. Please send these to events.london@ashurst.comand we will seek to cover them anonymously.
