Laura Freid-Studlo advises clients at all stages of the construction process, from contract drafting through dispute resolution.

Laura represents owners, developers and general contractors on both private and public projects. Her practice focuses complex construction disputes, including claims for non-payment, design errors, defective construction, and delay and impact. She also has significant experience resolving insurance coverage disputes and advising clients on the procurement of coverage and other risk management issues. Laura has extensive litigation and arbitration experience in matters arising from a wide range of commercial, residential and industrial projects.

Representative Experience

  • Secured $23 million summary judgment award for general contractor in dispute with insurer regarding damages resulting from loss at luxury high-rise condominium building.
  • Defended major manufacturer in arbitration regarding alleged failure of components at nuclear power plant and related claims exceeding $7 billion. As the prevailing party, the client was awarded fees and costs in excess of $58 million.
  • Represented contractor regarding claims stemming from the design and construction of a new set of locks for a major international waterway.

  • Represented design-build contractor in claims against insurers for losses arising from a sinkhole event on a combined sewer overflow tunnel and shaft project.
  • Secured insurance recovery for contractor with respect to a project severely damaged and impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
