A Pillsbury team led by Construction partner Jeffrey Gans is representing Wake Forest University in a $250 million, 100-acre mixed used development in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Entitled The Grounds, the project is being developed through a partnership with Wake Forest, Front Street Capital and Carter USA.
According to the Sports Law Journal, the development includes a retail village, student housing, an office building for hundreds of Wake Forest employees and new community green space, including a trailway and a pedestrian bridge over University Parkway that will link the school’s athletic facilities with its main campus. The project is expected to be completed in phases by 2027 and is one of the city’s largest economic development projects.
Features of the project include a 5-story 130,000 square foot office building for 400 Wake Forest employees; 42,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and bars; 25 loft-style residential units; and 229 units of student housing in a four-story building.
In addition to Gans, the Pillsbury team included Real Estate partner Noa Clark, Construction special counsel Laura Freid-Studlo, Environmental & Natural Resources partner Jeffrey Knight, and Real Estate senior counsel David Miller.
