Pillsbury recently earned the Industrials Restructuring of the Year award at the 18thAnnual Turnaround Atlas Awards for representing Nikola Corporation in its chapter 11 liquidation and sale process. Announced on May 12 in New York City, the Atlas Awards recognize outstanding value-creating transactions, firms, professionals and leaders across the global restructuring, insolvency and distressed investing communities.
The firm represented Nikola Corporation, a leader in zero-emissions transportation and energy infrastructure solutions, along with certain subsidiaries, in its chapter 11 proceedings in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Nikola conducted a Bankruptcy Court-sanctioned auction and sale process under Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code involving substantially all of its assets, including Nikola’s HYLA brand.
Approved in April 2025, the sale process resulted in the successful sale of substantially all of Nikola’s assets through multiple transactions, including a Lucid USA-led acquisition of the company’s Arizona facilities, as well as separate sales to Hyroad Energy and Wabash Valley Resources. Subsequent successful sale transactions involving Nikola’s environmental credits, intellectual property and other miscellaneous assets delivered additional value for the benefit of the Nikola estates.
