On March 22, The Asian Lawyer honored Pillsbury at a gala awards ceremony in Hong Kong as being the Aviation Firm of the Year and as having worked on the M&A Deal of the Year: North Asia for 2017.

Hong Kong managing partner and Asset Finance partner Paul Jebely co-leads the Aviation team, which was recognized for having closed dozens of aviation finance and acquisition deals in 2017 worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Jebely joined Pillsbury and opened the firm’s Hong Kong office in May 2016. He significantly rounded out Pillsbury’s transportation finance offerings. Last year, with just one partner, three associates and two staff members in Hong Kong, Pillsbury leveraged its market-leading strengths in asset finance and brought in 47 new matters.

The M&A award was for Pillsbury’s role in representing information and health technology giant, Hoya Corp., in connection with its investment in a consortium led by Bain Capital to purchase Toshiba’s $18 billion flash chip memory business.

Tokyo-based Finance partner Olivia Matsushita led the team that represented Hoya. The deal team includes New York-based partner Jonathan Russo and senior associate Matthew Kane, San Diego-based partners Mike Hird and Richard Segal, Washington, DC-based partners Michael Sibarium and Nancy Fischer, and Tokyo-based senior associate Masao Kasatsugu.

The prestigious Asia Legal Awards honor the best legal work in the region, identifying the most important transactions and cases with the most complex and outstanding legal work in Asia.
