MIAMI—Pillsbury announced today the addition of Markenzy Lapointe—a seasoned trial lawyer and former Department of Justice prosecutor—as partner in the firm’s Miami office. He joins from Boies Schiller & Flexner LLP.

Lapointe brings to the firm a wealth of trial, arbitration and mediation experience. He has handled a wide range of high-stakes disputes over the course of his career, ranging from class actions and business divorces between corporate executives to representations of defendants in product liability cases and plaintiffs in other torts. In both private practice and as a former Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Lapointe has worked extensively on criminal investigation matters, negotiating agreements and collaborating with federal agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigations and the Department of Homeland Security.

“Pillsbury is rapidly earning a reputation as one of the nation’s go-to law firms for trial counsel, and Mark’s arrival gives us still more strength on that front,” said Litigation practice leader Debby Baum.  “His experience deepens our complex commercial litigation and white collar benches while also enhancing our capabilities on the ground in Florida, and we couldn’t be more pleased to welcome him to the firm.”

In addition to being an exceptional litigator, Lapointe is also heavily involved in the community. He has been recognized by state and federal judges for his pro bono efforts—including one of the longest pro bono Federal Torts Claims Act trials in South Florida—and was awarded the Legal Aid/Put Something Back Pro Bono Award in Child Advocacy and the Daily Business Review's Most Effective Lawyer Award for Pro Bono in Family Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section, the American Bar Association's Commission on Immigration and various local bars.  He is also a former member of the Ad Hoc Committee on Rules and Procedures for the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

“Mark is a first rate lawyer and person—exactly the type of individual Pillsbury is looking for in building out our burgeoning Miami office,” said Office Managing Partner Jennifer Altman. “The litigation practice here is exceedingly busy right now, and the clients we’re working with will immediately benefit from Mark’s exceptional talents and work ethic. I’m so glad to have him back on my team.”

Lapointe served as a U.S. Marine in the Persian Gulf War in Operation Desert Storm, for which he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. He has been recognized as a Super Lawyer in Civil Litigation, has published on constitutional law and has been invited to serve as a panelist on many legal and community-related issues.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to join Pillsbury and to collaborate with my old colleagues to grow the firm’s Miami presence,” said Lapointe. “With a standout trial practice and a close-knit culture, Pillsbury presents an ideal platform from which I can grow my practice.”

Lapointe’s arrival brings to six the number of lawyers based in Pillsbury’s recently launched Miami office. He joins Altman, partners Keith Blum, Michael Kosnitzky and Shani Rivaux, and senior counsel Aryeh Kaplan, who collectively established the office in February 2017.
