June Yeum, a highly acclaimed international arbitration practitioner with a well-established practice representing Asian clients—including several major Korean companies—has joined Pillsbury as a partner. She joins from Clyde & Co. and will split time between the firm’s New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo offices.

Yeum has extensive experience advising and representing clients in relation to complex cross-border disputes and acting as lead counsel in international arbitration and related pre-arbitration or enforcement proceedings around the world. Yeum’s disputes practice focuses primarily on infrastructure, licensing and sales contracts, energy, construction and joint ventures.

“With a unique skillset, an outstanding reputation and a long track record of achieving success for clients, June greatly enhances our cross-border disputes offering,” said Pillsbury Chair David Dekker. “Few lawyers have a better reputation in Asia than June, particularly in Korea, where she is widely regarded as one of the country’s premier arbitration lawyers. There is no doubt our client base there will benefit from her arrival.”

Yeum’s skill in early dispute resolution strategy is widely recognized. She is consistently named a top practitioner by Chambers and Legal 500, which single her out as “an outstanding lawyer” known for her “outstanding quality of work and commitment to clients.” Yeum has been appointed as a panelist by the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) and American Arbitration Association (AAA), Badan Arbitrase Nasional Indonesia (BANI Arbitration Center), Korea Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC). She also serves on the Comparative and Foreign Committee of the New York City Bar Association.

“While Pillsbury has seen its international disputes capabilities expand significantly over the past few years, June’s arrival adds an important new dimension to our offering,” noted firmwide litigation practice section leader Deborah Baum. “Her impressive international arbitration practice—which is concentrated in Korea but spans Asia and beyond—complements our existing offerings in Japan and China and improves our ability to deliver strategic counsel for clients wherever they are located.”

Yeum’s arrival is the latest in a string of Pillsbury hires that have meaningfully expanded the reach of the firm’s global disputes practices. A three-lawyer team in London, led by highly regarded disputes partner Deborah Ruff, joined the firm in August 2017 while noted international arbitration partner Robert Sills arrived in May 2018. In November 2018, partner Geoffrey Sant led a five-lawyer group—the largest Chinese-fluent litigation team in New York—to the firm to focus on advising Chinese clients on cross-border litigation.

“Pillsbury’s platform offers a strong and growing cross-border disputes practices, an established reputation as one of the leading litigation firms in the U.S., and an extensive history of delivering results for clients in Asia,” said Yeum. “I am very excited to be a part of the team.”
