Pillsbury partner E. Leo Milonas has been appointed chair of New York State’s Commission on Judicial Nomination.

Milonas becomes just the sixth individual ever named to the position, in which he is responsible for overseeing the evaluation, and then recommendation to the Governor, of candidates to fill vacancies of the State’s highest court, the Court of Appeals of the State of New York.  He was preceded in the role by the late Hon. Judith S. Kaye, who chaired the commission until her passing in 2016.

“It is an extraordinary privilege and honor to serve as chair of this distinguished and important commission,” noted Milonas when reflecting on his  appointment.

Milonas has more than 16 years of judicial experience, serving prior stints as both an associate justice of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York State, First Department, and as chief administrative judge of the State of New York.  As a partner at Pillsbury, he has won major victories for clients at trial, on appeal, and in arbitration/ mediation. He is a former president of the New York City Bar Association and a past recipient of the New York County Lawyers Association’s prestigious William Nelson Cromwell Award recognizing “unselfish service to the profession and community.”
