On July 1, Pillsbury announced the release of a comprehensive bilingual Japanese/English guide to doing business in the U.S.

Entitled, “U.S. Business Law Handbook: From Introduction to Business Practice,” the one-of-a-kind bilingual book is designed as an essential overview of the principal legal areas that Japanese companies commonly encounter, including business entity selection, mergers and acquisitions, employment, international trade, real estate, intellectual property, taxation, litigation and dispute resolution.

Written by leading practitioners at Pillsbury, the book is designed for Japanese legal professionals—including in-house counsel, outside counsel and LL.M. students—and offers practical guidance grounded in real-world experience. It also assists U.S. practitioners working with Japanese counterparts to share basic understandings.

By highlighting key differences between Japanese and U.S. legal systems and business customs, the handbook equips practitioners facing the daily challenges of corporate legal affairs with both foundational knowledge and practical insights. Focusing on 16 key areas of U.S. corporate law, the book is presented in a side-by-side Japanese/English format to make it easier for Japanese professionals and students to attain a solid understanding of U.S. legal terminology, core legal concepts and the practical impact of those concepts on business operations.

The book is available at major Japanese bookstores, the publisher’s website and Amazon JP
