Adding to the firm’s continued success in Aviation Finance, Pillsbury’s Global Asset Finance practice was recognized for its leading role in Global Transport Finance’s 2018 AFIC Deal of the Year (Africa) during the magazine’s annual awards program on January 31. For more than 17 years, the annual event has brought together the world’s leading bankers, leasing companies, lawyers, private equity companies and consultants to acknowledge the very best transport finance market deals.

This year, Pillsbury was honored for its representation of Ethiopian Airlines in connection with four separate Aircraft Finance Insurance Consortium (AFIC) supported financings in 2018. The transactions included Ethiopian Airlines’ first ever AFIC financing, which involved both a senior and junior loan facility for the financing of five Boeing 737-8 aircraft, as well as separate facilities for three Boeing 777 freighter aircraft.

New York partner Charlotta Otterbeck advised Ethiopian Airlines on the matter, with support from Los Angeles-based special counsel Jason Greenberg.

Pillsbury’s Asset Finance team serves as a trusted adviser to the most established names in aviation as well as emerging players around the world, including manufacturers, airlines, lessors, financial institutions, corporations, individuals and other investors. Over the last five years alone, the group has helped a diverse range of market participants get or keep more than 1,600 commercial and business aircraft flying, reflecting an aggregate asset value of more than $75 billion.
