Major news outlets from around the globe covered a settlement announced on October 5 between Rust Movie Productions, LLC, the production company for the “Rust” film, actor Alec Baldwin, the film’s producers and the family of the late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Pillsbury’s Melina Spadone represented Rust Movie Productions, LLC and certain producers.

The settlement stemmed from a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the family in February 2022. The case will be dismissed, subject to court approval, for an undisclosed amount.

Ms. Spadone, in her representation of Rust Movie Productions, said the resolution “marks an important step forward in celebrating Halyna’s life and honoring her work.”

In a statement following the settlement, the family said they had “no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame” to the producers. “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident.”

The filming for “Rust” is expected to resume in January 2023.
